Tahoe Knitting 2009

LTYC Knitting Cruise (16)LTYC Knitting Cruise (141)LTYC Knitting Cruise (72)

The Cruise was really fun. We had a great group and the weather was beautiful. Seeing Lorna’s things in the book is one thing but being able to see them in person was much different. They were so beautiful. I am so grateful to everyone who came and I’m already making plans for 2010. If anyone has any ideas for a guest please speak up. They have to be willing to be on beautiful Lake Tahoe for 3 1/2 hours. They have to be willing to smile, giggle and laugh. They have to be willing to have a tasty lunch and are forced to have their photo taken repeatedly. I know it’s a lot to ask of any guest but I’m hoping someone will be willing to be a good sport like Lorna was.  LOL .  I truly want to thank  everyone who came and everyone who helped to make this the first trip of many.  I’m already looking forward to next year!

Summer is flying by so fast. There are classes every Saturday in August to try to get in as much as possible while the weather is beautiful. Check out the web site under “Current Stuff” and all the classes are listed. If you have any questions feel free to call the shop.

Thank you again for all your support!

Michael Jackson’s Death

This is kind of off topic for knitting and maybe it’s because he was so close to my age but I have felt very moved by Michael Jackson’s death. Maybe it’s because he has small children and as a mother I feel for the children. Maybe it’s because I’m a dork and have always loved pop music (I also like Barry Manilow). Maybe it’s because it was just way too soon as he had so much more to give. I can only imaging how spectacular the newest concerts would have been.  Maybe because if it was drugs that killed him it’s just so sad that celebrity and celebrity have died because of stupid drugs.  It’s just such a waste. I like to think of Farrah and Michael and Ed all hanging outside the pearly gates chatting away about how they got there and what they left behind and how beautiful it is where they are now. I don’t know it just sort of makes it a little easier to think of them in a happy place. I’d really appreciate it if they would take a few minutes and go pet my dogs that have passed. Molly, Sampson and Bubba. ( Be careful of Molly sometimes she can be a little bitchy) Anyway, I feel like the rest of the world, that we lost an icon. Good and bad, he contributed more to the music and entertainment world in his 50 years than most. He left and amazing lasting impression. I will certainly miss him and his music.

0614092032Hello everyone! I’m back from my trip to TNNA and visiting my daughter and grandchildren. The trip was fast and busy. I crammed a lot in just a short period of time. TNNA Was great!! Found a few more small companies that I will order from. Some wonderful Yak yarn and some fun yarn for kids. Some new Berroco booklets are on their way and the patterns are awesome. Especially the mens patterns!! If you have a guy in you life to knit for check these out.

Ok, some explanation. The photo above is me getting a tatoo of an adorable sheep with my daughter (She got the same one in almost the same spot) and I was knitting while I was getting it. I have several tatoos and for the most part the pain part really doesn’t bother me too much. Anyway, it was a fun silly mother, daughter thing to do and we had a lot of fun. The only bummer is that I can’t donate blood for a year and I always feel a little bad about that. But the kids were great, fun, exhausting and happy.

012Here we are at Busch Gardens. It was really fun. Lindsey and her older son Jamar got to go on all the roller coasters together. I hung out with the little ones. We really had a fun day and it Park is really nice!

My flightd for this trip went Reno to Denver, Denver to Columbus, Columbus to Charolette, Charolette to Norfolk, Norfolk to St. Louis, St. Louis to Dallas, Dallas to Reno. Needless to say I was pooped but every take off and landing was perfect! The clouds were spectacular!

Still working on the move. Waiting for the lease to be drawn up and all that good stuff. The attorneys have to be consulted, all those fun details but still shooting for a new opening on Sept 1st so keep checking back for updates. It will so great to have my very own shop. A little scary too but a good scary!

Have a wonderful weekend and if you in the area stop in and say “hi”

Live, laugh, love, knit and for Sandy…. rock  and roll!

Have you heard about the fire???

003

This is the scene I arrived to on Tuesday morning. My husband called my phone 10 times trying to reach me to tell me my shop had been on fire. (I was in the shower) Came downstairs and my phone rang. He said you need to get to your shop now. There’s been a fire. I looked at my 3 dogs, they were all inside and had a fresh bucket of water so I dashed out the door. When I arrived, I saw friendly faces that I knew. I got hugs from fire fighter friends and was told right away that they didn’t think there was too much damage. All I could think of was that I had so much to do today for the upcoming SHOP HOP! I needed my laptop which was inside and all the details I needed to take care of so the hop would be fun and successful.

After a few hours they were able to tell me that things looked good. Just after that our part of the crime scene was released and I could go inside. It smelled just slightly of smoke so my husband and I opened the windows and started looking for any water damage. THERE WAS NONE!  Because the fire fighter were immediately suspicious of arson they used the smallest amount of water they could to put the fire out and preserve evidence which meant the damage was contained to the upstairs. Now keep in mind, her Chiropractic office is directly above my head!  A short time later the fire dept called the T.D.P.U.D. to come back and restore our power and I was up and running.

People have called, stopped by, text messaged, IM on the computer and emailed offering help cleaning up, checking on me and the wool, and just telling me they were thinking about me. Knitters and Crocheters are AWESOME!!!

So the good news is the HOP going on,  the shoppers are shopping and there is yarn to buy!

Lots going on over the next few weeks so check the web site under”current stuff” to keep up on classes and events.

Thankx so much for all your good thoughts! I truely appreciate it!

Happy knitting!

Memorial Weekend

Well, it’s Saturday morning of Memorial Weekend and the town seems to have come to life. Lots of boats and jet skis and people shopping. Everyone baring their white legs from winter. Or maybe today sunburned legs from being out yesterday. The shop has been relatively quiet. I think the lake is far more attractive than a bunch of wool. Trust me if I could be out there with everyone else I would but being the owner of a business in a resort area put the owner at the shop for the busy weekend. I did stop to think about 2 of my grandfathers, an uncle and my son is law who is currently stationed in Korea. They have given a lot and a day to remember them means more the older I get. If I lived close to my grandfathers grave sites   I would go visit today. Say “hi” and make sure they had a flag. I think that’s probably all they would really like. But instead I’m here at the shop, with flags in my shop to show my appreciation.

I was kind of wishing I had knit a really cool flag project! ( Note to self: A future project)

My new very good friend Sandy has made some wonderful suggestions about Knit Night. We’re going to be knitting at Starbucks as well as the local music in the park. We just want to continue spreading the fiber word. Whether is knitting, crocheting, spinning, felting or any other fiber interest, we want to encourage and inspire. So if your a local in the Truckee/Lake Tahoe area or a visitor reading the blog now and then keep an eye out for us. We would be the crazy knitting ladies in town. (It’s ok we’re harmless)

I wish you all a Wonderful, Relaxing Memorial Day Weekend and I hope you can stop by the shop!!

Shop Hop Hoppers

I had a gal in the shop this week who was doing a dry run for the HOP. Wow, I had no idea that knitters cold be so serious. Now, having said that, the grand prize is $750.00 in gift certificates. Not a bad bounty. Plus, each shop is doing a drawing. My shop is doing 3 – $25.00 certificates and 1 for $100.00. I figure if folks are kind enough to drive all the way up here then a reward should be waiting for them. Also, all Hoppers will get 10% off their purchases. So I guess if all the shops are doing a little something and you can make it to all the shops then there’s a darn good chance of winning something. I’ve never done a hop but have to say I think with a group of friends it could be a really fun couple of days.

Having a sock class today and I’ve ramped up the design. This class is going to be alot of work but when finished I think there heads will be spinning with thoughts of double points, ribbing, heels, W&T, gussets, decreases and toe closing. I feel like an evil genus. Fortuately for them, I’m usually here to help when they start a sock and forget everything they learned.   LOL    It happens and until anyone does about 10+ pairs of socks, then it starts to ingrain on your brain. It should be fun!  I’ll let you know.

About 12 sign ups already for the cruise and it’s only May. I can hardly wait!! 3 1/2 hours on Tahoe, relaxing, knitting, chatting, food, cocktails…. sounds heavenly! Hope you can make it!!

New Class tomorrow!! Intarsia! 4 signed up now but there is still room. I try to sneek in if it’s not too busy at the shop. Allison’s classes are awesome. Next class will be posted in a day or so!

Happy knitting!

My nemesus, my web site

My web site and I seem to constantly be at war. I have been trying to add some yarns to my ecommerce portion and if it’s not one thing it another. ARGH! It’s a work in progress is kind of a joke. It’s a work in  frustration! Anyway, the Cotton Supreme and O wool’s Balance will be on line shortly.

Tonight is Knitter’s night out at Pianeta’s. Not tons of sign ups but a nice group. It should be really fun with really nice people. I hear the food is great and to have an off season special is always a treat.

Already have signups for the Cruise. July 18th. Tahoe Cruise and Book signing. Everyone is really excited about that and the shop hop. $750.00 is the grand prise. Now that will create some serious stash!! I wish I could go along but I’ll be here greeting hoppers as they show up.

Almost have a coat knitted that should be an awesome pattern. Just have to finish a sleeve!! Coat and pictures soon to follow.

Thankx for checking in. Nothing too exciting going on these days.  Getting lots of knitting done and that’s always a good thing.
